Common error messages

Solutions for the most common error messages you might see in Loam.

Permission errors

"Access denied"

Your account or delegated credential does not have access to the requested resource. This happens when:

  • The human or Agent selected for the API key or MCP authorization does not have an allow for the resource, or an explicit deny applies.
  • A selected Agent lost access, or the related human is no longer eligible to use that Agent. Loam checks both conditions live.
  • For API keys, check the credential on Settings > API keys (sign in to open this page).
  • A team member does not have access to the requested resource. Group-based data permissions cannot be changed in the web app yet; use the Support button if you need help with access.

"Access token expired"

The short-lived access token has expired. Loam normally refreshes it automatically. A custom tool should exchange its API key for a new access token and retry. If the API key itself expired or was revoked, create a new one.

"MCP resource does not match token audience"

The AI tool is calling a different resource from the one its token was issued for. Copy Loam's configured MCP URL from Settings > Connect AI (sign in to open this page). Do not derive a regional, workspace, or per-account URL.

Query errors

"Table not found"

The table you're trying to query doesn't exist. Common causes:

  • Typo in the table name. Table names are case-sensitive. Check the exact name in the explorer or SQL console.
  • Table hasn't finished importing yet. If you just uploaded a file, it may still be processing. Wait for the import to complete and try again.

A permissions problem returns Access denied, not Table not found. Group-based data permissions cannot be changed in the web app yet; use the Support button if you need help with access.

"Syntax error"

There's a mistake in your SQL. Loam supports common SQL statements, but not every SQL feature. Check for missing commas, unclosed quotes, or misspelled keywords. The error message usually shows where parsing stopped.

Upload errors

"File too large"

The web upload limit is 100 MB. Split the file into smaller files and upload each part with a different table name.

"Invalid file format"

Loam accepts CSV, TSV, JSON, XLSX, and Parquet files. Check that the filename extension and file contents match. For CSV files, check that columns are separated by commas and text values containing commas are wrapped in quotes.

Connection errors

"Something went wrong"

This message does not identify one specific cause. Wait a minute and try again. If it continues, use the Support button in the sidebar and include the exact error message.

"Network error"

Your browser couldn't reach Loam. Check your internet connection and try reloading the page. If you're behind a corporate firewall or VPN, make sure it allows connections to Loam.

Still seeing an error?

If your error isn't listed here or the suggested fix doesn't work, open the Support button in the Loam sidebar and include:

  • The exact error message
  • What you were doing when it appeared
  • Your workspace name
